I AM FREE!

7 04 2009

Cue the Jerry Macguire scene….”yeah I’m free….I’m free falling.”  I finished out my last two weeks at work and I am officially unemployed. I guess you could call me a SAHM or stay at home mom. This is both exhilarating and scary. Scary because money is finite and I will need to find work in the next few months. And exhilarating because I quit my job to spend more time with my 14-month old and find a more satisfying career. (If you just joined the party, catch up at Do What You Love.)

I need to take a moment to shout out to a few friends who have decided to do what they love. First, my friends Kevin and Melissa who decided to sell their house, take a trip across the country, and live in various places on the west coast for a few years. How amazing! Next, my sister who is deciding on what grad school to attend after being laid off in December. Tulane sounds amazing Cat! Then there is Joe, Neil, and my wonderful husband who have been getting together every week to improv and record their music and then share it at chilljam.com. These guys do it for the pure joy of music and to inspire others to continue to create, imagine and explore. Finally, a shout out to Carly who has followed her dreams of being a musician and teacher and who is 25 lbs lighter. Keep up the great work everyone! You are an inspiration to us all!

Got an inspiring story? Leave a comment and share your joy. I promise to post more often now that I am a SAHM (for the time-being).

I am soon to be unemployed as well. I am just trying to stay positive and view the whole experience as an opportunity. Good luck to you!

Ann,

I think you have the right attitude. Stay positive. In the end, it will work out for the best. They say that one characteristic of happy people is that they always see the opportunity in any situation. Thanks for sharing!

I’m so excited for you! Joe and I were talking about what doing a job you hate does to you. I’m so glad you are able to take some time with Melody and to figure out something that will make you happy.

I can’t wait to hear what life as a SAHM is really like. I’m home most days by 3-3:30, and I’m not working this summer. I would definitely love to get together. We could meet at the park? Get together for a coffee playdate? I’ll be busy finishing senior research papers or the next few weeks but after that I’m up for anything :-). Enjoy!!!!!
